5-Star QB Brady Smigiel Set to Visit Oregon Later This Month

The Ducks are bringing in one of the top prospects on the West Coast.

If you're looking for a great quarterback, it's not a bad idea to start your search in Southern California.

That's exactly what Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein is doing, as the Ducks are set to host 2026 Newbury Park (Calif.) High School quarterback Brady Smigiel for a visit on January 27, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals.

Smigiel is listed at 6'5", 205 pounds and is rated a five-star (0.9914 per 247Sports Composite) recruit. The same system ranks him the No. 22 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback and the No. 2 recruit in California.

The Southern California passer has become one of the biggest names in the country despite only having played two seasons of high school football, as evidenced by his 22 reported scholarship offers, which include Oregon, Ole Miss and Florida State to name a few.

As a sophomore in 2023 he finished the season throwing for 4,235 yards and 52 passing touchdowns. His recruitment has clearly gotten off to a fast start and he's taken a few trips to Michigan and Florida State.

Oregon has one verbal commitment in the 2026 recruiting class in Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain five-star defensive lineman Tony Cumberland, however he's gone on the record mentioning that he plans to reclassify to the 2025 class.

Either way, it's always a great idea for a coaching staff to get their class started off with a top signal caller nationally. The Ducks have made a habit of going into Southern California for elite high school football recruits, however they haven't had a great amount of success recruiting passers from the Golden State.

But things look like they're improving, as Oregon holds a verbal commitment from 2025 San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln quarterback Akili Smith Jr., whose father is one of the best quarterbacks the program has ever seen.

Smigiel doesn't appear to be close to a commitment, but it will only help the Ducks to get him on campus early in his recruitment to build a solid relationship and establish themselves as contenders down the line.
