The Oregon Ducks are preparing to welcome recruits back to campus with the recruiting dead period ending earlier this week.

This weekend, 2025 Los Angeles (Calif.) King Drew Medical Magnet EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro will return to Eugene for an unofficial visit. He previewed the trip and gave the latest in his recruitment.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound defender has strong interest in Oregon due to Dan Lanning and the Ducks defense.

"What Coach Lanning is doing over there. The defense that they run in," he said of what stands out. "The linebackers in that defense really eat and that really piqued my interest."

Onyeagoro's basketball background is part of what makes him a great fit as a premier athlete.

"They want to use me in a dual way, I would rush the edge but also be an outside linebacker/inside linebacker kind of player. They just want to use me in a variety of ways. I just love what they're doing over there. How their defense is running."

He was in Eugene last summer for the annual Saturday Night Live Camp and has developed strong relationships with multiple coaches on the staff.

"Me and Coach Brian (Michalowski) and Coach (Tosh) Lupoi have a really good relationship. We talk pretty often," Onyeagoro said. "Coach Brian came around my school a few times too. Real cool guy, he knows what he's talking about. He's just a great coach. I could learn a lot from him."

This weekend will give the Ducks a chance to further solidify their standing with the Southern California standout. He already views Oregon as a top school.

"Oregon (is) definitely in my top schools. That's why I want to come out and visit, check 'em out again. They've expressed a lot of interest, so I want to see how they run things over there and if it'll be a good fit for me. Definitely in my top five."

Spring Preview: Ducks Boast Special Mix of Talent at Running Back

The talented edge rusher has only been playing football since his sophomore year, but it's taken little time for him to land on the radar of schools across the country. He has some more trips he's excited to take this spring.

"I'm going to Oregon State this weekend too," he said. "I got a visit to University of Miami and Florida State in two weeks. I'm going to SMU to watch spring practice, I'm going to the University of Washington as well. UCLA, and I got an official visit to Arizona State June 19 through June 21."

His upcoming trips will be crucial in his decision-making process as he eyes a commitment in the near future.

"I'm looking to make my decision in about a month or two."

More from Onyeagoro

"I just want them to know whatever school I go to, I'm gonna give it 120%. Once I'm committed, I'm committed, that's where I'm rolling with."
