Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma Sooners Quarterback, Commits to Oregon Ducks
Oregon has landed a massive commitment out of the transfer portal.
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel has committed to the Oregon Ducks. He announced his decision over social media.
Gabriel spent the last two seasons in Norman as the Sooners' starting quarterback for head coach Brent Venables after transferring in from the University of Central Florida prior to the 2022 season.
He originally signed with the Knights as a three-star (0.8704 per 247Sports Composite) recruit from Mililani High School in Hawaii. The same system ranked him the No. 754 player nationally, the No. 27 pro-style passer and the No. 9 recruit in Hawaii.
In 2023, he led Oklahoma to a 10-2 overall record with the two losses coming to the Kansas Jayhawks and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Gabriel threw for 3,360 yards and 30 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions this season. He had four 300-yard passing games and three 400-yard passing this season, as he helped Oklahoma light up opposing defenses all year.
He's also an incredibly capable runner, rushing for 373 yards on 93 carries (4.01 YPC) for 12 touchdowns on the ground.
Gabriel will arrive in Eugene following the departure of veteran quarterback Bo Nix, who will head to the 2024 NFL Draft after the Fiesta Bowl against No. 23 Liberty, wrapping up his two-year career with the Ducks.
He's slated to compete against quarterbacks already on the roster like sophomore Ty Thompson and redshirt freshman Austin Novosad. The Ducks are also expected sign Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga in the 2024 class. Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren de-committed from Oregon on Saturday, backing off a pledge he made in May.
The Ducks have been known for having one of the best offenses in college football and fans should expect that to be the case once again in 2024 under offensive coordinator Will Stein.
