Florida EDGE Solomon Williams Shifting Into Decision Mode

Solomon Williams is one of the top targets still on Oregon's board in the 2024 class.
In this story:

Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day EDGE Solomon Williams is one of the most sought-after defensive prospects in the 2024 class.

After piling up 48 reported scholarship offers, he whittled his list down to a top five, with Alabama, Clemson, Texas, Texas A&M and Oregon all making the cut.

But after he took his official visit to Oregon for the Washington State game this fall, that list reportedly shrunk to two, with the Ducks solidifying their spot as one of his finalists.

Earlier this week, Williams indicated that he's shifting into decision mode in an interview with On3's Chad Simmons.

"It is decision time," he told Simmons. "I will work on setting a date, then likely committing before the end of this month."

Williams one one of two priority targets for Oregon along the defensive line in the 2024 class--with the other being Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo defensive lineman Jericho Johnson, who I have predicted to Oregon.

Torres' Take

The Ducks already have two edge rushers committed this class with Elijah Rushing and Jaxson Jones, but I doubt they'd turn Williams away.

That said, I'm not too certain of the pulse with this recruitment. I haven't been able to interview Williams myself, but there's nothing but strong Oregon buzz here coming from other analysts like Simmons and 247's Steve Wiltfong.

I would wager the other school in his unofficial top two is Alabama, and that hunch was strengthened by the Crimson Tide getting him on campus for his latest visit. That said, he's also visited Texas and Texas A&M this fall.

Oregon is recruiting the edge position really well and you'd be foolish to think that's not related with how the defense is performing. With that in mind, space is limited in the 2024 class.

I think the staff would be ecstatic with the defensive line haul they have right now, but Jericho Johnson is the guy I feel more confident about them getting in the long run. But we've seen how much of a premium Lanning and the staff have placed on recruiting elite defensive linemen, so maybe they view Williams as someone who's too good to pass up on.

Either way, I think we have to wait to see what the decision date is and if that could give the Ducks enough time to potentially get him back on campus.
