Junipero Serra Cornerback Rodrick Pleasant Commits to Oregon

The Ducks have added a commitment from one of the nation's top defensive backs.

2023 cornerback Rodrick Pleasant has committed to the Oregon Ducks, announcing his decision on ESPN.

Pleasant chose the Ducks from a final five that also consisted of USC, UCLA, Cal and Boston College, however his recruitment came down to Oregon and USC.

He took his final official visit to USC back in January, but Dan Lanning and Demetrice Martin were in Los Angeles last week for an in-home visit with him and his family.  California ties run deep on both Oregon's roster and coaching staff, with coaches like Martin, Rashad Wadood and Tosh Lupoi and playing a significant role in Oregon signing the heralded defensive back.

Pleasant is a special talent, pairing his elite skills as an Under Armour All-American cornerback with blinding speed. Back in the spring he set the California state record for the 100 meters with a time of 10.14 seconds.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect joins a special haul in the secondary for the Ducks in 2023, one that also features Long Beach (Calif.) Poly cornerback Daylen Austin. Pleasant (No. 8 in CA per 247Sports) and Austin (No. 10 in CA) are the two highest rated defensive backs in California for 2023.

Defensive back is and was a major need for Oregon following the departure of shutdown cornerback Christian Gonzalez to the NFL. On Wednesday afternoon Oregon Football announced Pleasant had singed his national letter of intent.

He's expected to enroll at the University of Oregon this summer.

The Ducks have prioritized the Golden State for years and that isn't changing any time soon. Along with Pleasant and Austin, the Ducks signed 2023 WR Jurrion Dickey (Menlo Atherton), EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei (St. John Bosco), LB Jerry Mixon (Sacred Heart Cathedral), OL Lipe Moala (Mater Dei), CB Solomon Davis (Charter Oak), EDGE Jaeden Moore (Central Valley Christian), OL Bryce Boulton (Palm Desert) and junior college OL George Silva (Fullerton College).
