Linkon Cure Continues to See Recruitment Take Off, Oregon Remains in Heavy Pursuit

Linkon Cure is one of a handful of blue-chip prospects from a loaded state of Kansas. He's seen his recruitment boom and Oregon is one of his top options.
In this story:

2025 Goodland (Kan.) tight end Linkon Cure is a special athlete. When he's not hauling in touchdowns on the gridiron, he's punching home slam dunks for the Goodland Cowboys basketball team in their state playoff run.

His recruitment has reached a new level in 2024, with schools like Texas, Miami and USC all extending recent offers. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound prep spoke with Ducks Digest about the latest in his recruitment.

"(I) Took the dead to period to sit down with my family, go over some pros and cons and evaluate a lot of colleges and narrowed it down a little bit," Cure said. "I'm taking it very well and enjoying the whole thing it's been a dream come true."

The coveted playmaker, who's ranked the No. 2 tight end in 2025 (per 247Sports Composite), is ready to get back on the recruiting trail this spring and laid out some of his visit plans.

"I'll be at Texas on March 22 and then Texas A&M on March 23 and then I think K State (Kansas State) on April 11. I think I'll be at KU (Kansas) March 30. I'll be at Oregon's spring game (April 27) I believe."

Dan Lanning and the Ducks have long been one of the schools making the strongest push, and his interest in Oregon remains strong.

"They're definitely up in my ranks," he said. "I'm very fond of the coaches. Love the coaching staff. Love the facilities. Love everything about 'em. I got great relationships with Oregon."

The Oregon staff has made it a priority to see Cure in person, making multiple stops in Kansas to see him.

"Yeah Coach (Drew) Mehringer, he came multiple times. He came with Coach (Will) Stein once and then Coach Lanning and Coach Mehringer came to one of my games and they were all great visits.

"One of the visits me and Coach Mehringer we just went over some plays and stuff, how to read a linebacker. I really enjoyed that. Really enjoy their visits."

When Cure was writing out those pros and cons for his top schools, it was hard to find a con for Oregon.

"I absolutely love everything about Oregon," Cure said. "I don't really see any cons there. Distance can be hard, but that's not much of a problem I can make that work. I love everything about them, especially the coaching staff. It's been great."

More than 25 schools have offered Cure, but there seems to be one in particular that could be Oregon's biggest threat: the in-state Kansas State Wildcats.

"I just absolutely love everything about it," he said. "I love the culture, the fans, the place. There's nothing not really to love and then especially I have just great relationships with the coaching staff. The support there is probably the biggest deal for me. I'm not going to get supported anywhere else like I would at Kansas State. It's just a great place to be."

Kansas State is the only school that Cure has scheduled an official visit to, as the Wildcats will host him on June 21.

Garnering so much attention from top schools across the country has caused him to adjust his decision timeline.

"I did want to do it earlier, but I think now I'm gonna take all my OVs (official visits) and get it done before my senior year."

Linkon Cure off the field

"I'm a great person. I value my schoolwork a lot. I value my future. I'm a respectable person. I'm a great leader. I've been preached to my whole life to be a leader and I'm doing my best job with that."
