Marcus Harris Locks in Official Visit to Oregon, Gives the Latest in Recruitment
The Spring is an important part of the recruiting calendar, and top prospects across the country are hitting the road to see schools, while also scheduling official visits.
Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide receiver Marcus Harris is one of the premier offensive talents on the West Coast, and recently scheduled his official visit to Oregon for June 14. Ducks Digest spoke with the four-star wide receiver for the latest in his recruitment.
Harris is as well-traveled a recruit as you'll find and is eying trips to a number of big-name schools.
"Not totally confirmed yet, but next week, Thursday I think on the 21st I'm going to Georgia, the 23rd FSU. April 6 Ole Miss," he said. "April 9 Texas A&M. April 16 Texas. April 18 Oregon. Florida April 29."
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound route runner has also scheduled official visits to Tennesse on June 6 and Texas on June 23.
Oregon has continued to be one of the main teams to watch for Harris, with the coaches in Eugene playing a big role in his recruitment.
"They've been real high on me ever since the start of my sophomore year, so real early. That's always been a dream school of mine, so having the blessing of being able to talk to my dream school every now and then, they're interested in me and I'm interested in them. It's just good. I love the way they run their offense."
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are coming off a playoff run last season and find themselves as a top competitor for Harris.
"They got a lot of people I know over there," Harris said."Their receiver coach went to Mater Dei so, a lot of mutuals over there. I love the way they run their offense. (They) Always have the best quarterbacks and that's always a good thing for a receiver like me, you know to have somebody to throw the ball to. NFL teams that got quarterbacks, they also look at who they're throwing the ball to and that's also a big thing for me."
One of the top players in the Trinity League also had high praise for Tennesse, as the Volunteers continue to recruit big-time recruits to add to their roster.
"Like the other two schools, I love their offense. They're really just a pass-first team and that's that's good for me. I just love the way they get they receivers in open space and get them the ball and things like that. They got a couple So Cal connections, so that's always good too."
Harris told Ducks Digest that he plans to take no more than five official visits, with a college commitment to come shortly thereafter.
"Really after I take my officials," he said of his timeline. "I'm just gonna look at things, talk with my family, see what's right for me. Let time go by, just relax because really just the end of my recruitment. I don't really have a time set, but when I feel like the time is right I'll make the choice."
Marcus Harris off the field
"I feel like football really is something that describes me. You can see I'm a football player. I just love football. I'm a caring person. Make sure that people around me are good. One reason I'm playing football is to help my family in a way. A lot of people in my family haven't really went to college. I want to be that first person to do that. Set an example."
