Nation's No. 1 RB Jordon Davison Has Another Strong Visit to Oregon
2025 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison is the No. 1 back in his class and made the trip out to Eugene for Oregon vs. USC last weekend.
Ducks Digest caught up with the highly-coveted ball carrier to discuss his Oregon visit.
“I just wanted to see what they were doing with their backs in person," he said of why he got up to Eugene. "I just wanted to see what the process is and how everything is ran up there.”
Bucky Irving and Jordan James have been putting on a show all year and Davison liked what he saw.
“I’ve seen a lot of positives. I like how they use their backs in the pass game and the run game. Most of their stuff is creating one-on-one matchups with the backs. I like how they do that.”
It was a bit of a last-minute trip for Davison, who received a warm welcome from a deafening Autzen Stadium.
“It was crazy, actually. It was real loud in there," the Southern California star said of the gameday atmosphere. "The fans were showing love. I was surprised they knew who I was. I was surprised they even knew I was coming because I announced it so late.”
Recruits typically have a busy itinerary when they're in Eugene, but there was one main highlight.
“Just sitting down with Coach Lock (Carlos Locklyn) and Coach (Dan) Lanning. Just chopping it up. Not even talking about football, just having genuine conversations.”
Davison offered more detail on his relationships with Oregon's running backs coach and head coach.
“Man, Coach Lock is my guy. Me and him are close, close. My relationship with him is great. Probably one of the best relationships I have with a coach.
"And then Coach Lanning, I have a good relationship with him too cause he’s real down to earth. He’s not big-headed.”
Lanning referenced having unfinished business when he shut down Texas A&M rumors earlier this week, and what's in store for Oregon is part of what has Davison's attention.
“Just the thing that they’re building over there and the way they use their running backs really," he said of what stands out the most about Oregon. "And the direction the program is headed.”
With 50 reported scholarship to his name, a smaller group of schools are recruiting him heavily.
“Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Colorado,” Davison said.
It looks like he's making progress toward a decision, but before that can happen he wants to have a top group.
“I’m just trying to narrow it down. Narrow everything down so I can get a date for this commitment.”
When it comes to what the 6-foot, 205-pound back wants in a school, he wants the chance to compete for a title among other things.
“Good academics, a family atmosphere, somewhere where I fit whoever has a great plan for me and it makes sense. Somewhere I can compete for a national championship.”
Oregon has plenty of competition in Davison's recruitment, but they've made it clear that they'll be in contention until the very end.
