247Sports Tabs Oregon Cornerbacks Coach Demetrice Martin Pac-12 Recruiter of the Year

Martin played a big role in helping the Ducks land some of their top commitments in the Pac-12's top recruiting class.
In this story:

The Oregon Ducks just signed the top recruiting class in the Pac-12 for the 2023 class, the first full cycle under head coach Dan Lanning.

Dan Lanning placed a premium on recruiting when assembling his coaching staff in Eugene, adding names like Tosh Lupoi and Adrian Klemm--both former Pac-12 recruiters of the year.

On Wednesday cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin added another accomplishment to his decorated coaching resume, as 247Sports named him the Pac-12 recruiter of the year for the 2023 class.

Here's what 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong had to say about Martin:

"Oregon brings in the nation’s No. 8 class, tops in the Pac 12, with cornerbacks coach

Demetrice Martin

assisting with some major wins on the trail. None bigger than the one on the last day, National Signing Day, as the Ducks came out on top over USC for perhaps the fastest player in the class in Top247 cornerback

Rodrick Pleasant

. Martin was also the primary on Top247 cornerback

Daylen Austin

who flipped on LSU during the last day of the Early Signing Period.

Martin was the lead recruiter for his son in Top247 cornerback

Cole Martin

, and also was integral in gaining signatures from four-star safety

Kodi Decambra

, athlete

Solomon Davis

and cornerback

Collin Gill

.

Martin finished as the No. 17 ranked recruiter in the country."

After previous stops at five schools in the Pac-12, it appears Martin's arrival in Eugene may be coming at just the right time. Christian Gonzalez followed his position coach to Eugene for one season with the Ducks and became the best cornerback in the conference and some may say the best in the country.

With Gonzalez heading to the NFL, Martin was hard at work logging miles all over the country to bring in reinforcements for the secondary in 2023.

The two headliners in his haul are the top defensive backs in California, Long Beach Poly's Daylen Austin and Junipero Serra's Rodrick Pleasant. Austin brings a combination of speed and length to the secondary that is tailor-made for Oregon's defense, while Pleasant brings game-breaking speed, agility and playmaking skills that will help the Ducks slow down the top passing attacks in the Pac-12.

CLASS IMPACT: Rodrick Pleasant chooses Oregon over USC Trojans

Martin's deep ties in Southern California, one of the nation's top recruiting hotbeds, were taken to a new level when combined with Lupoi's recruiting prowess and the new addition of defensive graduate assistant Rashad Wadood, who coached at Long Beach Poly and played at Arizona State when Lanning was a graduate assistant.

The trio are hungry to bring more top talent from Southern California to Oregon in the 2024 class, which already features Newport Harbor (Calif.) wide receiver Jordan Anderson. Work from these coaches and others on staff have the Ducks in a great spot with top Los Angeles area recruits Dylan Williams and Dakoda Fields to name a few.
