Oregon Makes Big Impression on Kamar Mothudi During Visit

Oregon offered Mothudi in January and is moving up quickly in his recruitment.

2024 Valley Village (Calif.) Campbell Hall linebacker Kamar Mothudi has become one of the biggest recruits on the West Coast since the turn of the calendar year.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound 'backer was offered by the Oregon Ducks in January and offers from Utah, Nebraska and Michigan weren't far behind.

He made it out to Eugene over the weekend and enjoyed practically every part of the visit.

"What wasn't a highlight? The whole place was amazing," Mothudi told Ducks Digest. "Obviously the facilities and just being there was awesome, but seeing the players interact with the coaches was really good."

The detailed approach from Dan Lanning and his staff really caught his attention.

"I had player personnel, player development meetings as part of my itinerary--I think that was one of my favorite parts. They went over the NCAA academic requirements and I'm trying to graduate early, so just seeing what else I would have left, that was probably my favorite part. Every part of the day was planned and everyone was super excited, it was awesome."

During his trip he spent time with Lanning, Tosh Lupoi and Rashad Wadood, but he also got to meet new inside linebackers coach Brian Michalwoski.

"He's super detailed," he said. "Going to the meetings seeing the drills he planned for practice, the plans he printed out for the players for practice, having everything ready for them. He's super excited, just ready to coach, just wants to make sure everyone's on their assignment, understands it and is able to learn. He was awesome."

The Ducks left a major impression on one of their top linebacker targets.

"They left a huge impact," the Southern California standout said. "I feel like everyone knows Oregon. You recognize the O anywhere you go. Especially with this being a whole new staff I'm really excited to see what happens next season. Being with them confirmed it's more than just the hype. They really are about it. They're on it. They're detailed and I know they're gonna be ready for sure."

What kind of message are the Ducks sending in his recruitment?

"That they want me. That's one thing I appreciate also is that they're super transparent. There's no smoke and mirrors. I know there's a need for backers, but I also know they're recruiting other backers and I'm one of the top backers that they want. They send a great message."

Mothudi is hearing the most from a number of schools as recruitments heat up in the spring.

"Oregon, Washington, ASU actually, Utah. They haven't offered, but Oklahoma. Those are who I'm mainly hearing from."

He'll head to Washington for his next visit on April 2, but also has some other schools he'd like to see.

"I want to try to get up to Michigan, Utah, Arizona, possibly Cal and then Nebraska."

The playmaking linebacker plans to lock in official visits with Oregon and Michigan, but also added that his decision timeline has changed after this weekend.

"Before I was saying first signing day but I've been talking to my parents, coaches and counselors and I want to try and graduate early. If that's the case, I think I want to try and commit over the summer--so I just take my classes, commit over the summer, and enroll early."

Mothudi is holding one factor above all else in his recruitment and it's an area the Ducks will thrive in with stars like Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi on staff.

"Biggest factor is definitely player development. How you develop your players. There's some other things, but that's probably the biggest thing."
