Oregon Offers Jayden Fortier, State's Top Recruit Committed to Arizona State
The Oregon Ducks sent out a big offer Saturday morning.
Following a 31-7 win over the Oregon State Beavers, the Oregon Ducks have offered 2024 Tualatin (Ore.) tight end Jayden Fortier, who announced the offer over social media.
"After a great conversation with Drew Mehringer I'm blessed to say I've received an offer from The University of Oregon!" he wrote in a Twitter post.
There are a couple elements that make one of Oregon's latest offer so interesting.
For starters, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon for the 2024 recruiting class. He's also been committed to former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils since June 30.
Fortier committed to Arizona State over competing offers from the likes of Utah, Arizona and Washington State among others.
The No. 1 recruit in Oregon saw his senior season come to a close on Friday night, as the Tualatin Timberwolves fell to the Central Catholic Rams 49-21 in the Oregon 6A State Championship.
Torres' Take
This offer is one that I've been expecting for a while. The Ducks already have commitments from other top in-state players like Devin Brooks and A.J. Pugliano, so why wouldn't the No. 1 recruit have an offer?
Oregon has been ramping up their efforts to add more offensive talent in the 2024 class of late, hosting top targets like Boise State wide receiver Gatlin Bair as well as Orem (Ut.) tight end/wide receiver Roger Saleapaga, who's set to announce his commitment on December 1.
Despite Fortier's commitment to Arizona State, I really like Oregon's chances here. I've never interview him, but if you compare the situations at both schools, it's not hard to see the appeal with playing for the Ducks.
Not only are they red-hot both on the field and the recruiting trail, but you figure the offer to play for a school he likely grew up supporting or at least watching means a lot. Dan Lanning has made it a point to recruit the top players in Oregon and Saturday's offer is the latest example of that.
Fortier has been to Oregon for a visit before, but I'd imagine the next step is getting him back on campus.
