Oregon OL Target Brandon Baker Picks up New Recruiting Prediction

Mater Dei offensive tackle Brandon Baker has been a priority for the Ducks in the 2024 class but now appears to be trending elsewhere ahead of his commitment.
In this story:

2024 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive tackle Brandon Baker has picked up a new recruiting prediction.

On Thursday, Baker was predicted to commit to the Texas Longhorns by both Gerry Hamilton and Justin Wells of On3's Inside Texas.

Both Hamilton and Wells logged their predictions with 70% confidence, as the Longhorns continue to cement themselves as legitimate contenders for Baker's commitment.

This development is timely seeing that Baker set a commitment date for September 24 on Thursday. That announcement was not accompanied by a group of top schools, but the finalists that are expected to have the best chance to land his pledge are Texas, Oregon, Nebraska, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Baker took three official visits this summer to Texas, Ohio State and Georgia and has what might be his final official visit scheduled to Nebraska for September 16.

Torres' Take

We've seen this one coming for a bit. Even though I made my prediction for Oregon a while ago, I've been reporting that Texas is a school with a very legitimate chance to shake this one up.

Baker didn't visit Oregon this summer and has yet to schedule his official visit with the Ducks, which on the surface would appear to be their final chance to recapture or ignite any sort of momentum. I don't think this development comes because Oregon did anything "wrong." After all, Baker told me last month that he was still talking with A'lique Terry every day.

But what we do know is that Oregon has been directing a lot of their recruiting effort toward Tampa (Fla.) Catholic interior offensive lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis, who placed the Ducks in his top five recently, and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy interior offensive lineman Jordan Seaton. Seaton is reportedly taking a visit to Eugene when the Ducks play USC in November and I expect that Pierre-Louis will take his official visit before making a commitment.

I'm going to do some more digging on my end to see what kind of scoop I can get, but for what it's worth, both Hamilton and Wells are about as plugged in as it gets in the Texas market.
