Oregon Set to Host Washington CB Jabbar Muhammad Ahead of Commitment
It's been a chaotic couple of weeks in college football since Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. With former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer being named his successor in Tuscaloosa, there's been an exodus of talent from Seattle.
One of those players Oregon fans have had their eyes on is former Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad. The first-team All-Pac-12 selection told Ducks Digest that he plans on visiting Oregon next weekend before making his official commitment.
Muhammad visited the Texas earlier this week and while Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns may be the team with the most buzz for the former DeSoto (Tex.) standout, the coveted defensive back will also trip out to Tuscaloosa and Eugene.
Former Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer will host the 5-foot-10, 185-pound defensive back this weekend as Alabama players enter the transfer portal in droves. Former five-star safety Caleb Downs headlines the latest of the bunch, while former Alabama star wide receiver Isaiah Bond has already committed to Texas.
Dan Lanning and the Ducks look like they'll get their chance as the last visit for Muhammad before he makes his final decision. He had previously told Ducks Digest that he wanted to make his commitment this week, but it looks like his timeline is getting pushed back to allow him to see what Oregon has to offer.
"They got everything you need to be successful and like I said that's kind of like exactly what I'm looking for at the end of the day," he said of his Oregon interest in a recent interview. "They have stability there. Obviously with Coach Lanning turning down jobs and everything. Oregon's building something really special."
The Ducks have already landed commitments from three defensive backs this offseason via the transfer portal in Kameryn Alexander from UTSA, Kobe Savage from Kansas State and Brandon Johnson from Duke.
Muhammad would more than likely be an immediate starter in Oregon's defense alongside Jahlil Florence and arm the Ducks with even more star players to be immediate competitors during their first year in the Big Ten.
Transfer portal recruitments are extremely fluid and can change in an instant. So I wouldn't be surprised if this trip got moved up to earlier next week.
But right now it looks like you shouldn't count out the Ducks for Muhammad.
