The Latest in Cameron Jones' Booming Recruitment

Running back Cameron Jones has seen his recruitment take off with big offers coming in from schools across the country.
In this story:

2024 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco running back Cameron Jones is one of the hottest running back recruits on the West Coast right now. In the month of January alone, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound bruising back landed seven new offers and spoke with Ducks Digest about the latest in his recruitment.

"It feels great honestly," Jones said of the increased interest he's seen in his recruitment. "All the work paid in for it. Still waiting for a lot more because I'm aiming for the top. I want all 50."

He landed an offer from Carlos Locklyn and the Oregon Ducks in December and that's one that's captured his attention when looking at the newer schools that have joined his recruitment.

"I don't wanna say top ones yet because I haven't got all of 'em. I haven't explored my options with it," he said. "I like Oregon a lot. That's top for sure. I don't know what number but that's top."

He made it out to Eugene last month and was able to take a more in-depth look at the program compared to when his team played a game at Autzen during the football season.

"I had the sit down with the running backs coach. Watched over film. I learned a lot off of that. I feel like it was great just all around," Jones said of the trip. "It's like a new experience going out of state and seeing new things out there. Seeing how they work as a program and just seeing what I can learn from it."

Jones went into the trip looking to learn and was able to soak in a lot of knowledge from his time with Locklyn.

"I had really learned a lot in that span of like 10-15 minutes that I had with Coach Locklyn, it was a lot that I had learned. He had me break down the film that I had watched and he'll show me like the whole other way or the correct way of doing it. He for sure added some skills to my toolbox for that."

Two other recent trips he's been able to take were to Texas and Texas A&M. He commented on his interest in both programs.

Texas

"I am interested in Texas. I like Texas. I've been wanting that for a minute."

Texas A&M

"I feel like the top thing was the stadium. That stadium is huge. I like environments like that, like huge environments where the fans are really engaged into the game, their players playing. That played a big part."

Jones is hoping the Longhorns pull the trigger with an offer soon and he looks forward to building a relationship with the next Aggies running backs coach once he's announced.

Like all recruits Jones is anxious to get back out on the trail in March and already has trips in mind.

"The first day that it opens up, March 1, I'll be at UCLA. I have a couple spring games set up for April. I'm trying to set up some more unofficials in March. I want to head to ASU (Arizona State). I want to head over there and if I can head back to Texas."

As the offers continue to come in and he takes visits Jones is emphasizing one box that he really wants schools to check.

"Coaches ask me that question too but the only question I can give them is really that bond with the coaches, cause it really shows if they really want you at the school or they just wanted you to be on their radar type of thing. If a school really wanted me they'll keep contacting me throughout the time and I'll build that relationship with that coach and the other coaches on the staff."
