The Latest With Oregon and Top OT Target JacQawn McRoy
Ever since Mario Cristobal was on staff at Oregon we've seen the Ducks not only recruit but land massive offensive lineman.
Now, another big name the A'lique Terry and the Ducks are in the mix for is 2024 Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville offensive tackle JacQawn McRoy. He was in Eugene this spring and spoke with Ducks Digest about the latest in his recruitment.
The 6-foot-8, 365-pound tackle loved his first time in Eugene.
"It was amazing. I liked it," McRoy said."I liked the young coaching staff, real new school. The gear just speaks for itself. The gear's amazing. That's just a plus. It's just a good school. Good school, good people there."
Part of what's standing out about the Ducks for the offensive lineman is the man running the program.
"Coach Lanning. This is my first time really meeting a defensive-minded head coach. I just feel like a nice staff. They're gonna hold you accountable."
A'lique Terry is looking to make a name for himself as a recruiter during his second stint in Eugene and it goes without saying landing McRoy would be a huge win.
"That's kind of like my big bro," McRoy said. "He's 27. He's young. He's gonna give you that new-school type of coach."
Part of what makes Terry special is his coaching philosophy.
"Coach Terry is goofy. I like the way he coaches. Coach Terry is like, you're all still kids kind of, so we're gonna have a little fun, but we're still gonna get the job done."
Going across the country from the Southeast to Oregon isn't exactly the norm and McRoy knows that. However, he intends on making the best decision for himself.
"What's good for me isn't gonna be good for little Timmy up the street or something," he said. "You've got to weigh your options and do what's best for you at the end of the day. You're the one who has to play there. At the end of the day you worked for it."
McRoy will be getting on the road next month and has four official visits locked in.
"I locked in Ole Miss for June 2-4. Then I got Arkansas June 9-11. Then I got Kentucky June 16-18. Then I got Oregon June 23-25."
Those four schools are the ones he's in contact with the most right now and a decision isn't far off.
"I will be committing June 30 or July 1, one of those. It depends on when I get the place rented out."
What's the most important to him when he goes to make that decision?
"Family like environment," McRoy said. "You just gotta feel comfortable. You want to be around good people and people that are going to push you at the same time."
