Things 'Getting real' Between Oregon and Chris Johnson II

The Ducks offered the 2024 cornerback in April and have ramped up their recruiting efforts.
In this story:

On Monday Oregon missed on one of their top targets as 2024 Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields committed to USC.

But it's not all bad news for the Ducks, as they have another intriguing defensive back that will be in Eugene starting on Tuesday.

2024 Aledo (Tex.) cornerback Chris Johnson II is closing in on his college commitment and gave the latest in his recruitment. Johnson is set for a busy June, and his visit itinerary includes a pair of trips to Eugene.

"Tomorrow (Tuesday) I head out to Oregon for an unofficial. The sixth through the eighth." he told Ducks Digest. "Then on the ninth I go on an official to Arizona State. Next weekend (June 16-18) I go to Arkansas for an official and then back to Oregon the last week of June for an official visit, the 21st through the 23rd."

A decision is not far off for the Lone Star State defensive back.

"I plan on making my decision on the fourth of July."

What is the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder prioritizing in his recruitment?

"Definitely a place that's more than just a football team,"  Johnson said. "That I can get a good education. Safe and what can a school do for me if I just become a normal. My Dad always says I'm one snap away from being a normal student, a normal person."

Johnson is working from a top six of Arkansas, Arizona State, Louisville Oregon, SMU and Uah.

He spoke about the programs he'll visit officially this month.

Arizona State

"I've always been close with Coach BC (Bryan Carrington), Coach Dillingham, the whole Arizona State coaching staff. They offered me pretty early in my recruiting. Just gotta show love and we've always been close so getting out there, it just felt right."

Arkansas

"They came, they offered me and they offered one of my good friends Jaden Allen, another DB that goes to Aledo. Just getting down there and seeing the opportunity to play another four years with a best friend from the same school--it's just an opportunity I'd love to go look at and think about."

Oregon

"I've always loved Oregon. Oregon's always been one of my favorite schools to watch, look at. When it became a real thing that Oregon had offered me it was like a no brainer to try and see how far I could push it and see if they were serious about me."

Since the Ducks offered in April, things have ramped up between them and the defensive back.

"Oregon, it's been high on the board. I talk to Coach Meat daily. I talk to Coach Parks, the recruiting analyst. I talk to Ify (Obidegwu) a lot, so now that the dream kind of became a reality, Oregon's getting higher on the board."

The Ducks continue to work their way up his short list of suitors.

"I'd definitely say top three for sure. (I) Just talked to Coach Lanning earlier today, so it's getting pretty serious between me and Oregon."

Johnson had a lot of good things to say about Oregon, but a few things stand out the most about Dan Lanning's program in Eugene.

"Definitely the type of football they play," he said. "At the end of the day it's college, but they're running it so professionally it's more like a business. Something I could definitely see myself being a part of."
