Torres' Take: The Latest in Oregon Football Recruiting February 3

The stars are out in Eugene this weekend with an elite group of prospects in town for visits. Could we see some fireworks?
In this story:

Dan Lanning and the Ducks are putting the pedal to the metal on the recruiting trail. Well, maybe it's more like through the floor.

This weekend they're hosting what is one of the most impressive group of recruits I've seen in my six years covering Oregon. It's that crazy.

Here are some of my latest notes and intel as a big weekend gets underway in Eugene.

TE Da'Saahn Brame

Brame is the name I want to start with here because I think he's the player I view as the most likely to commit. I've heard nothing but good things about where the Ducks stand in this recruitment and he recently received a visit from Lanning, Will Stein and Drew Mehringer out in Kansas.

Tight end is a position of need this cycle with a couple of expected departures after the season and Oregon is the team to beat here. I wouldn't be shocked if this went down during the weekend with all of this talent on campus. The staff wants to generate momentum and that's one way to capitalize.

TE Nate Roberts

Roberts is the second of two really talented tight ends on campus. I like his tape, and it's because I see some George Kittle in his game. Maybe I'm only saying that cause I'm a 49ers fan, but the point still stands, the guy can flat out play and is super physical.

I think Brame is the better athlete of the two, but the 6-4 Oklahoma native is a stud. He was recently in Columbus to see the Buckeyes, but the Ducks staff also went out to visit him ahead of this trip. This has largely been a two-team race between Oregon and Ohio State and I'm hearing that the Ducks have made up ground recently. Maybe even enough to be viewed as the new leader.

WR Gatlin Bair

Bair is the last 2024 target on Oregon's board and it feels like there's not too much left to talk about here. I put in my prediction for Oregon earlier this week.

He's down to Oregon and Michigan and my feeling is it's more of a matter of when not if he'll announce for the Ducks. The Signing Day isn't until next Wednesday, but after some of the conversations I've had this week I think there's a chance this could happen before then.

EDGE Nasir Wyatt

Wyatt is a name I've been tracking for a long time now. Even when I first moved to Southern California and the big defensive names at Mater Dei were Aydin Breland and Zabien Brown, I was told he was next up.

He's an absolute missile and the top EDGE target for Oregon in this class. He told me this week he's had a bit of a reset in his recruitment following recent coaching moves, but I still think Oregon is firmly the team to beat. Nothing has happened to lead me to believe otherwise and getting him on campus this weekend is huge.

The Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi factor really moves the needle and I think he's definitely one worth watching here. Maybe his timeline gets moved up sooner than people think.

RB Jordon Davison

Let's stay at Mater Dei for a second. Davison is Oregon's No. 1 running back target this cycle, especially after missing on Nate Frazier (Georgia RB signee) last cycle. He looked like a college back the first time I saw him as a sophomore in 2022 and his stock only continues to rise.

Oregon and Texas are the two teams you'll probably hear mentioned the most for him, and I really like the Ducks' chances here. I don't believe he's closing in on a commitment, but the staff was at Mater Dei earlier this week which could give them some juice going into this trip.

He's fresh off a visit to Texas A&M and I think Oregon should feel good about where they stand. He'll be coming up with Wyatt this weekend as well as some of his other Mater Dei teammates.

WR Dakorien Moore

The LSU wide receiver commit out of the Dallas area is a name that is firmly at the top of Oregon's board. Even with Dallas Wilson and Adrian Wilson already in the fold, the Ducks would love to add Moore.

He's plenty familiar with the program after taking previous Oregon visits with past Duncanville teammates like Colin Simmons (2024 Texas EDGE signee) and getting him back on campus is very notable.

I don't have a lot of specifics on him at this time, but I certainly wouldn't count out the Ducks here and there's clearly mutual interest.

DB DJ Pickett

Pickett is one of the most versatile players in this class regardless of positions. If you want to see for yourself just look at some of his plays at wide receiver for California Power on the 7on7 circuit.

He's taken recent visits to Florida, Miami, LSU and Clemson and it's a bit hard to get a pulse on the leader right now. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a recruitment that gets drawn out as he has 40 reported offers and no top schools list.

This is at least his second time in Eugene and Oregon has been flourishing recruiting defensive backs in recent cycles, which shows they can be a contender for anyone in the country.
