Former five-star recruit and one-time Oregon commit will play the rest of his college ball for the Ducks.

UCLA quarterback Dante Moore is coming to Oregon. For the second time.

The former five-star recruit will be transferring to Oregon following a visit to Eugene this weekend, he announced on Monday.

Moore is the third commitment of the day for the Ducks, following the additions of running back Jay Harris and offensive lineman Matthew Beford.

He’s the second quarterback from the transfer portal to commit to Dan Lanning this off-season after Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel announced his commitment last weekend. The Ducks appear to have their starter for the 2024 season in Gabriel, but adding Moore to help build out depth in the quarterback room is key with the departures of Bo Nix and Ty Thompson.

The Ducks will have four scholarship quarterbacks heading into 2024 with Gabriel, Moore, Austin Novosad and true freshman Luke Moga.

Moore was a former five-star (0.9977) recruit in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite. Playing at Detroit (Mich.) Martin Luther King Jr. High School, he was ranked the No. 5 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback and the No. 1 recruit in Michigan.

As a freshman at UCLA, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Moore had an up-and-down year. He played in 9 games and threw for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns against 9 interceptions while completing 53.5% of his passes as the Bruins finished 7-5. He projects to be the primary backup to Gabriel next season and will add valuable experience to offensive coordinator Will Stein’s room.

Oregon’s quarterbacks look to be fairly set for next season and the Ducks also hold a verbal commitment from San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln quarterback Akili Smith Jr. in the 2025 recruiting class.
