Wide Receiver Adrian Wilson Talks Oregon Commitment, What's Next
Oregon is already off to a red-hot start recruiting the class of 2025. Dan Lanning and the Ducks hold four verbal commitments, with Adrian Wilson being one of their latest.
The 6-foot-2, 173-pound wideout flipped his commitment from the in-state TCU Horned Frogs to the Oregon Ducks during his trip to Eugene for Saturday Night Live.Â
"It was definitely connections. A lot of relationships that I've built over time," Wilson said of why he flipped his pledge. "Coach AP (Antonio Parks) coming from Arizona State, I've built that connection with him for a while.Â
"Coach (Will) Stein was based out of Austin for a while being a high school coach here and being a college coach here- and him being my fourth offer. Coach (Dan) Lanning, me and him talked for a while."
Wilson's commitment to TCU was short lived and lasted just over a month. So why was now the right time to become a Duck?
"I just feel like, if it feels like the right time why stay committed to a school you don't want to be at? It felt like home the moment I landed."
While he's playing his high school football in the Lone Star State, his admiration for the Ducks dates back to his childhood out West.Â
"I'm from Anchorage, Alaska originally," Wilson said. "That (Oregon) was the area school. So that's been my dream school. Getting the opportunity to go there, I definitely took full advantage of that."
The crafty pass catcher said that Oregon never faded in their efforts, especially after he announced his commitment to TCU. It was a done deal once he got on campus.Â
"It was definitely in the works for a while. Me and AP were talking since the day I committed to TCU. He texted me and said we need to get that flipped immediately. It was kind of solidified once I finally got on campus."
Wilson reflected on his first recruiting visit at Oregon and what he got to do during his time in Eugene.
"It was great actually. Just getting to talk to Coach Lanning about the vision for the program that he had coming for when I got there. Getting to figure about some of the NIL opportunities and getting to see the new things on campus that they're building."
His bond with receivers coach Junior Adams is strong, even if it is a newer one.
"Me and Coach Adams built a great relationship once I got on campus because I didn't really know him from other schools, it was just from Oregon," he said. "Once we got on campus, we really spent time with each other, walked around on campus. We kind of just built a really good relationship while I was there, so I knew it was like a home away from home, just building relationships with all the coaches even down to the equipment manager."
Now that he's committed, he's quickly turned into a recruiter for the Ducks and is working on an elite target.
"Definitely trying to get the Dakorien Moore. I already got one to join me actually. I got a quarterback to join, Akili. He hopped on when I talked to him, because I had a sit down talk with him and his dad right after I flipped."
What's next for Wilson now that he's committed?
"My plan is to just ball out this season. Get up to some games for some wins of course, some big wins for Oregon. Make it up there for some of those and after the season, get up for some visits as well, all my officials and things."
