Williams Nwaneri Announces College Commitment

Williams Nwaneri is off the board after including Oregon among his final five schools.

2024 Lees Summit (Mo.) Lee's Summit North defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri has committed to the Missouri Tigers. 

He announced his decision during the 247Sports College Football Recruiting Show.

The five-star, 6-foot-5, 250-pound lineman chose the Missouri Tigers from a final five that also included the Oregon Ducks, the Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers. 

Nwaneri took a pair of visits to Oregon, with the latest coming in late July for Oregon's Saturday Night Live camp. He was also slated to take an official visit to Oregon during the regular season, but that trip is likely cancelled or looking unlikely. 

Dan Lanning is a Missouri native like Nwaneri, but head coach Eliah Drinkwitz's pitch was too good to pass up.

Nwaneri had more or less always been viewed as a long-shot for Oregon this cycle, but they still have some solid pieces committed in Durant (Ok.) defensive lineman Xadavaien Sims, the top player in his state, as well as St. Louis (Mo.) Hazelwood Central prep Tionne Gray, a 6-foot-6, 295-pounder that flipped from Missouri to Oregon in April. 

Moving forward, expect Oregon to prioritize Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland and Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day edge rusher Solomon Williams.

Defensive line is a significant need for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks this recruiting cycle, as they're slated to lose veterans like Popo Aumavae, Casey Rogers and Brandon Dorlus following the 2023 season.
