Former Tulsa Kicker Transferring to Penn State
Penn State received a special teams commitment from the NCAA Transfer Portal, as former Tulsa kicker Chase Meyer announced that he will join the Nittany Lions in 2024.
At Tulsa, Meyer was a third-team All-American Athletic Conference selection this season. He went 17-for-20 in field-goal attempts, ranking second in the conference in field-goal percentage (.850). Meyer's season-long was 47 yards, and he went 3-fof-5 from beyond 40 yards. He also kicked Tulsa's game-winning field goal in the season-finale against East Carolina.
Penn State will be Meyer's third college program. The Costa Mesa, California, native began his career at Penn, where he took mostly kickoffs in 2021. Meyer transferred to Tulsa last season. He entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 1 and visited Penn State last week. Meyer also visited Oklahoma. Meyer has two seasons of eligibility remaining but can redshirt.
Penn State will audition for a new starting kicker next season, as all-Big Ten kicker Alex Felkins has exhausted his eligibility. Sander Sahaydak has two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Nittany Lions. Sahaydak won the starting job in training camp, but Felkins replaced him in the opener against West Virginia and did not relinquish the starting job. Sahaydak played in five games this season. Fellow kicker Gabe Nwosu, who specialized in kickoffs, also has two seasons of eligibility.
Penn State recently learned that starting punter Riley Thompson, who transferred to the program before the 2023 season, had two more years of eligibility approved by the NCAA.
