Penn State received its first commitment Monday from the NCAA Transfer Portal cycle, as Division II offensive lineman Alan Herron announced he will join the Nittany Lions' roster in 2024. Herron announced his decision in a post on Instagram.

Herron played two seasons at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. He is a 6-6, 310-pound lineman who was listed as 270 when he signed with the program in 2022. Herron is originally from Jamaica, according to his Shorter University bio, and played high school football at Banneker High in College Park, Georgia. Herron played left tackle at Shorter, a position that will become open when All-American Olu Fashanu leaves for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Herron entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Nov. 16 and received offers from Syracuse, Auburn, Miami, Clemson, North Carolina State and Central Florida, among others. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

According to 247Sports, Herron is a 3-star prospect and the No. 7 offensive tackle in the Transfer Portal.
