Penn State's Olu Fashanu Named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year

Fashanu becomes the second Nittany Lion to win the Big Ten award as top offensive lineman.

Penn State's Olu Fashanu, who did not allow a sack at left tackle over the past two seasons, was named the 2023 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. He became just the second player in Penn State football history to win the award. Fashanu joined center A.Q. Shipley, who was named the conference's lineman of the year in 2008.

Twelve Nittany Lions were recognized on the All-Big Ten offensive teams, with Fashanu the only player named to the first-team. Running back Kaytron Allen (coaches) and center Hunter Nourzad (coaches and media) earned second-team honors, while nine other Nittany Lions were recognized. Thirteen Penn State players, including all 11 primary starters, were named to the All-Big Ten defensive teams.

Fashanu, a fourth-year player who has one season of eligibility of remaining, was among the highest-graded linemen in the nation. He did not allow a sack in 382 pass-blocking snaps this season and in more than 680 over the past two years. According to Sports Info Solutions, Fashanu recorded just eight blown blocks (only one in run-blocking situations) this season.

Fashanu is the top-rated offensive tackle of the 2024 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Field Yates. The 6-6, 317-pound Fashanu, a second-team All-American last season, could become the 44th consensus All-American in Penn State history. The team captain also is a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, considered the academic Heisman. Fashanu carries a 3.45 grade-point average in supply chain and information systems. Fashanu is a three-time Dean's List honoree.

Penn State's All-Big Ten third-team honorees were running back Nicholas Singleton and tight end Tyler Warren. Receiving honorable mentions: quarterback Drew Allar, guard Vega Ioane, tight end Theo Johnson, receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, guard JB Nelson, tackle Caedan Wallace and guard Sal Wormley. All six offensive linemen who started games for Penn State this season received All-Big Ten recognition.
