Penn State Is on a Recruiting Roll
Penn State has launched a spring recruiting surge, receiving commitments from four prospects over the past two weeks. The latest is Florida defensive back Antoine Belgrave-Shorter, a three-star player from Jacksonville.
Belgrave-Shorter announced his decision on social media.
Belgrave-Shorter is the 2024 class' eighth commit overall and second defensive back from Jacksonville's Mandarin High. He joined teammate Jon Mitchell, a 4-star cornerback who committed to Penn State coach James Franklin on April 1. The two visited Penn State together.
This marks the second consecutive recruiting cycle in which Penn State has received commitments from defensive backs from the same school. Last year, King Mack and Conrad Hussey of Fort Lauderdale's St. Thomas Aquinas High committed to the Lions' 2023 class. Mack signed with Penn State, but Hussey ultimately chose Florida State.
Belgrave-Shorter has offers from Ole Miss, Miami, Wisconsin and UCF, among other schools. His stature could grow among SEC teams with a strong senior season at Mandarin.
Penn State's recruiting class has begun to take shape during the past month and accelerated its commitment pace over the past few weeks. Belgrave-Shorter (6-0, 180 pounds) is a top-100 player in Florida and a top-50 cornerback nationally, according to 247Sports. He joined Quinton Martin, Pennsylvania's top-ranked player, in committing to the Lions over a three-day period.
With the run of commitments, including six since Feb. 28, Penn State's 2024 class has climbed into the top 10 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Lions rank No. 8 nationally and third in the Big Ten behind Michigan and Ohio State.
Penn State likely will continue riding the Blue-White surge and bring in at least one more commit around the April 15 spring game at Beaver Stadium.
