Bracketology Watch: Pitt Still Holds Good NCAA Tournament Odds
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers valiantly fought back, rallying from down as many as seven inside of the final minute to pull within a possession of a share of the ACC regular season title. Instead, Blake Hinson's last-second heave fell wide of the bucket and No. 16 Miami celebrated a 78-76 victory on their home floor.
The loss stung, but it didn't seem to affect Pitt's standing in NCAA Tournament projections. ESPN's John Gasaway didn't knock the Panthers much in his latest Bubble Watch analysis.
"After Capel's team lost at Notre Dame in its previous game, it fell to the 'last four byes' section of the projected bracket," Gasway wrote. "That's where you'll likely still find Pitt when it begins play at the ACC tournament. Something unexpected can happen, of course, but it appears something unexpected will indeed have to happen for the Panthers to miss the NCAA tournament."
Pitt was still listed under his "work to do" section of ACC teams alongside NC State, North Carolina and Clemson. The Panthers will open the ACC Tournament next week as the five seed, facing the winner of the 12-13 game between Georgia Tech and Florida State. Pitt has a combined 3-1 record against those teams this year.
