Pitt G Dior Johnson Suspended Following Felony Assault Charges
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have suspended freshman guard Dior Johnson from the men's basketball program following felony assault charges being filed against him.
According to a police record obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Johnson was charged on Oct. 6 for accounts of aggravated assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, simple assault and false imprisonment. The offense date is recorded at Sept. 5, 2022.
Pitt's Athletic Department has declined to comment until after the legal process has reached a solution.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Pittsburgh Sports Now's Alan Saunders, the incident details Johnson hitting a female victim multiple times in the arms, stomach and head, "making her throw up twice". He also reportedly tried to call off of practice to stay with the victim in fear she would contact the police.
Johnson de-committed from Syracuse and joined the Panthers as part of Jeff Capel's best recruiting class. The five-star athlete was already impressing at practice.
