PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers missed the 2024 NCAA Tournament but only barely, it was revealed in the selection show this weekend.

Pitt did not crack the final list of 68 teams to make the field for the big dance, but did check in as one of the First Four Teams left out. It was joined by Oklahoma, Seton Hall and Indiana State as teams who came up just short.

Colorado, Boise State, Virginia and Colorado State were the Last Four In. The Panthers have a head-to-head win over the Cavaliers and a higher NET ranking but did not get the nod over the selection committee.

Non-conference strength of schedule was cited frequently as a deciding metric for plenty of close seeding decisions and Pitt ranked No.

The Panthers are now all but certain to earn a bid to the NIT. That bracket is announced at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
