PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have been knocked down a peg by a 33-point loss at the hands of Wake Forest, marring some of the positive momentum they had built during recent weeks.

Their setback was reflected in the all-important NCAA NET Rankings, which plays a big role in determining who earns at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. Pitt had climbed to as high as No. 47 nationally but fell back down nine spots to No. 56 following an ugly loss in their marquee matchup with the Demon Deacons.

Pitt had been the fifth-highest-ranked ACC team and now sits as the seventh-highest-ranked after falling behind No. 48 Virginia and No. 52 Virginia Tech. North Carolina and Duke lead the conference, ranked 10th and 16th, respectively. Wake Forest leapfrogged Clemson, moving from 40th to 26th while the Tigers dropped a spot to No. 28.
