ECU Transfer Plans Visit to Pitt
PITTSBURGH -- An important transfer target will be visiting the Pitt Panthers next month as they look to fill the hole left behind by leading scorer Blake Hinson's graduation.
Brandon Johnson, a prolific scorer and rebounder from East Carolina, will take a trip to see Pitt and meet with the coaching staff on April 12, according to a report from On3's Joe Tipton. He is a coveted prospect that has plenty of suitors, but the Panthers have made themselves one of the early leaders.
Johnson, a 6'8 and 222-pound redshirt junior from Raleigh, North Carolina, has blossomed over the past two seasons after transferring in from Brunswick Community College.
Johnson averaged 14 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season while appearing in 31 games - all starts. He shot 36.5% from 3-point range, a vast improvement from the 33.3% mark he posted the season prior.
Pitt contacted him last week alongside South Carolina, Arkansas, Clemson, St. John's, Miami, Notre Dame and Seton Hall. Tipton also reported that Johnson will be visiting Miami a couple of weeks before he coms to Pittsburgh.
The Panthers have three open scholarships heading into the 2024 offseason after Federiko Federiko and William Jeffress hit the transfer portal. Blake Hinson and K.J. Marshall will depart for graduation, but incoming freshmen Brandin Cummings and Amdy Ndiaye will take their spots.
