Former Pitt DT Earns NFL Monthly Award
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers star defensive tackle Calijah Kancey's NFL career is off to a strong start and the league recognized him for an excellent month of November.
Kancey, who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took with their top selection this year as he was coming out of Pitt, has been named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month after logging 10 tackles, seven for loss and two sacks this past month.
Kancey missed most of the preseason and the first three and a half games of the regular season with a lingering calf injury but has been on a torrid pace since returning to the field.
He earned an immediate starting job after the Buccaneers selected him with the 19th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft and, in the seven full games he's played has recorded 14 tackles, eight for a loss, seven quarterback hits and three sacks.
