Pitt DL Calijah Kancey Named Walter Camp Preseason All-American
PITTSBURGH -- Defensive lineman Calijah Kancey has established himself as one of the premier interior defensive linemen in America through two years as a Pitt Panther and the praise he's earned ahead of his junior season proves it. On Monday, Kancey added Preseason All-American to his resume after the Walter Camp Football Foundation named him to their second-team defense.
Kancey, the only Panther to land on one of the two All-American teams, joins an accomplished group of players on the second team that includes such stars as Texas' Xavier Worthy, LSU's Kayshon Boutte, Florida's Gervon Dexter, Utah's Clark Phillips III and USC's Caleb Williams, to name a few.
Kancey has earned All-American honors twice before. Following a standout rookie season, the undersized but quick and agile interior defender was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, Rivals and The Athletic. After his sophomore season in 2021, the Associated press upgraded Kancey to third-team All-American.
As he approaches his third season in college, Kancey has caught the attention of professional scouts. He figures to be an early exit for the NFL after accounting for a team-leading 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks along a crowded Pitt defensive line that is garnering recognition as one of the best units in the country.
