Former Pitt LB Transfers to South Carolina
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers linebacker Bangally Kamara has found a new home where he'll play out the rest of his college career.
Kamara, a two-year starter for the Panthers, announced on Twitter that he had committed to South Carolina. He is the second former Pitt defender to join the Gamecocks through the transfer portal with defensive tackle Deandre Jules having already committed last month.
Kamara, a former three-star recruit from Akron, Ohio, has started 21 games over the past two seasons and amassed 117 total tackles, 11.5 for loss, five sacks, an interception and nine passes defended over four seasons at Pitt.
2023 was his best season to date, as he set new or tied old career-highs in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks despite playing in just 10 games.
Kamara's departure left a gaping hole in the Panthers' linebacker corps going into 2024. Solomon DeShields was the only starter slated to return and even though freshmen Kyle Louis, Braylan Lovelance and Jordan Bass saw some limited playing time in 2023, the departures of Brandon George, Shayne Simon and Kamara left Pitt with few proven players at that position.
But the Panthers have done well to reload their linebackers room since Kamara's departure. George exited the transfer portal and will remain at Pitt next season and the Panthers added a former all-conference linebacker from Ohio in Keye Thompson this week.
