Damar Hamlin Has Special Moment in Cincinnati
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers safety Damar Hamlin made an emotional return to the site of a landmark night for himself and professional football when the Bengals and Bills played in primetime at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The backdrop of a clash between two AFC contenders made Sunday night at Paycor Stadium special on its own but the former Pitt standout, Hamlin, returning to the field on which he almost lost life as a fully healthy member of the Bills made it an even more special night in Cincinnati. Hamlin himself acknowledged it after the game, during which he spent a moment at midfield, the specific place where he took the devastating hit that sent him into cardiac arrest and was then saved by the quick action of first responders.
The Bills lost, 24-18 to the Bengals but, despite not dressing for the game, Hamlin made the most of his trip to the Queen City. Prior to kickoff, Hamlin announced a scholarship fund named in honor of each of the 10 nurses, doctors, trainers and paramedics who saved his life on the field that night in January.
He had dinner with those same medical professionals who helped him the night before the Bills and Bengals played, during which he announced the scholarship fund and caught up with people who are now an intricate part of his life story.
Hamlin's latest trip to Cincinnati was certainly emotional again but this time, for positive reasons, as he emerged fully healthy from a shocking and sad injury after a remarkable recovery.
