CHAPEL HILL -- A 42-24 loss to North Carolina on the road all but eliminated the Pitt Panthers from contention for the ACC Coastal Division. Their league title defense is essentially over after falling further behind the leaders.

Sitting at 4-4 after blowing a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, captain and starting defensive end Deslin Alexandre said that this season was a disappointment for Pitt, who expected much more of themselves.

"In a way, yes because we want to win an ACC championship," Alexandre said. "We've just got to continue playing every day and every play like it's our last, and I think we'll continue to do that."

The Panthers entered this season as the No. 17 team in the first AP poll and have since fallen out the ranks of the best in the country. It's been a major fall from grace for a team that was expected to be among those fighting for a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina during the first weekend of December.
