PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers defensive backs are all over the NFL right now and one made a play this week that grabbed the attention of the entire league.

Former Pitt defensive back Jason Pinnock snagged a one-handed interception from way up in the air at New York Giants training camp, a spectacular display of athleticism that became one of the highlights of the first week of NFL training camp.

He tallied 54 tackles, 25 passes defended and six interceptions over 46 games in four seasons at Pitt before joining the Jets as a free agent in 2021.

Pinnock was a productive defender in the Jets' secondary rotation that year. As a rookie, the former fifth-round pick recorded 16 total tackles, forced a pair of fumbles and defended one pass over 12 appearances, two of which were starts. He was in the middle of a transition from his natural position at corner back to safety.

Last year, Pinnock played in 14 games and made five starts for the Giants, recording 41 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three passes defended, a forced fumble and recovery, four quarterback hits and a pair of tackles for loss.
