PITTSBURGH -- The latest round of college football polls was delayed 24 hours because of the Labor Day holiday, leaving five days in between the Pitt Panthers' 38-31 win over West Virginia and the announcement of the next set of rankings.

After being ranked in the preseason AP top-25 and Coaches Poll for the first time since 2010, the Panthers held more or less steady ahead of Week 2 action. AP voters kept them in the same No. 17 spot they occupied prior to Week 1 and the coaches awarded a modest two-spot bump up to No. 14. This is the eighth straight AP poll that has featured the Panthers.

While Pitt didn't see any movement in the AP poll, their next opponent did. Tennesse, who steamrolled Ball State 59-10 this past weekend, made their 2022 debut in the top-25, checking in at No. 24. That means the Week 2 game between the Panthers and Volunteers will be a top-25 matchup, the first one at Heinz Field/Acrisure stadium since September 2020, when No. 24 Louisville visited No. 21 Pitt.

Each of the five ACC teams ranked in the preseason AP poll won and held on to their spots in the rankings, although three moved down because of the relatively unimpressive nature of their wins.

Clemson wasn't able to put lowly Georgia Tech away until the fourth quarter and moved down one spot to No. 5. Wake Forest also dropped one spot to No. 23 despite demolishing VMI 44-10. And NC State, who can thank a missed field goal for their 21-20 victory over East Carolina, took a five-spot penalty and currently sits at No. 18. Miami moved up one peg to No. 15 after hanging 70 points on Bethune Cookman.
