PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers were looking to add depth to their offensive line from the transfer portal but an ACC rival swooped in to land the commitment of a veteran transfer from the FCS.

Former Howard offensive lineman Da'Metrius Weatherspoon announced this week on Twitter that he had chosen Syracuse over offers from Pitt, Charlotte and others.

Newly-minted Syracuse head coach Fran Brown has now taken a couple of players that the Panthers were interested in - first 2024 four-star running back commit Yasin Willis and now Weatherspoon.

He has appeared in 13 games for the Bison over his three years with the program, 11 of which came this past season for a 6-6 Howard team that made it to the Celebration Bowl, also known as the Black National Championship game.

In 2023, Weatherspoon was named an HBCU All-American by HBCU Go after blocking for a Howard offense that averaged 367.5 total yards and 28.5 points per game.

The Panthers and Orange are scheduled to play every season from now until 2030 under the ACC's new scheduling model.
