Former Pitt LB Signs with CFL Team
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers linebacker had been waiting for his next opportunity in professional football ever since he attended rookie minicamp with the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring and he's finally found the next step in his career.
Wiltz, who played for Pitt as a graduate transfer in 2022, has signed with the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football as a member of their expanded practice squad roster, the team announced this week.
Wiltz played just one season with the Panthers after transferring from FCS Missouri State. He saw his playing time increase exponentially as he got increasingly familiar with the playbook. He appeared in all 13 games, three of which were starts. He saved his best for last, combining for 13 tackles, 3.5 stops for a loss, two sacks and an interception between the regular season finale against Miami and the Sun Bowl vs UCLA.
He totaled 50 tackles, four for loss, two sacks, an interception, four passes defended and a forced fumble in a reserve role for Pitt. The 6'1, 210-pound backer participated in the Tropical Bowl at the end of his final season in college.
