LOUISVILLE -- The Pitt Panthers survived the second half of the Virginia Tech game without star linebacker and captain SirVocea Dennis, who had to exit the game early with an undisclosed injury.

But the bye week appears to have been good to Dennis, who made his return to the Pitt lineup at the open of the Louisville game. He was right in the middle as the Panthers started on defense against the Cardinals.

Pitt counted on Shayne Simon, who typically plays on the outside, to fill in at the middle. He did that capably and it gives the Panthers coaches that they can move their backers around, but for at least the first drive, Dennis and Simon were in their normal spots.
