Former Pitt Coach Takes New Job at Georgia Tech
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers tight ends coach Tim Salem has taken a new job eslewhere in the ACC and joined them just in time for spring ball.
Salem, one of the original members of head coach Pat Narduzzi's coaching staff at Pitt, is now on staff at Georgia Tech, where he is currently serving as a special teams advisor for Brent Key, the Yellow Jackets' head coach. Kelly Quinlan of JacketsOnline.com first reported the news earlier last month. Salem was fired from his position at Pitt in January.
Salem was instrumental to the development of Pitt's standout tight ends like Gavin Bartholomew, Lucas Krull, Scott Orndoff and J.P. Holtz during his eight seasons coaching the Panthers. Salem served as interim offensive coordinator during the 2022 Peach Bowl, after Mark Whipple stepped down from his position.
Prior to Pitt, Salem had spent three seasons as special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Illinois. Before that, he coached running backs from 2004-2011 and coordinated the offense during the 2007 at UCF while also coaching special teams. He's also coached quarterbacks and Ohio State ad Purdue and was the Boilermakers' offensive coordinator from 1994-1996. Salem has made other scoaching stops at Colorado State, Phoenix College and Arizona State.
