PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers lost their starting center to the transfer portal this week and immediately, they got to work on finding his replacement.

One candidate to fill the void left behind at center for Pitt is former Michigan center Tarris Reed, who entered the transfer portal last week and has since heard from a number of different high-major programs, according to On3's Joe Tipton.

Georgetown, Arkansas., Kansas State, Providence, Ole Miss, Mizzou, UCLA, Penn State, Oregon, Northwestern, Boise State, Davidson, Miss State, lona, Memphis, LSU, Nebraska, Xavier, Memphis and SMU have also contacted Reed since the transfer portal opened early last week.

Reed, a former four-star recruit and top-40 player in the class of 2022, just finished up his sophomore season with the Wolverines and will look for a new home after Juwan Howard was dismissed from his post as head coach at Michigan. He started 31 of 32 games during the 2022-23 season and averaged 9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while making 51.9% of his field goals.

The Panthers have three open scholarships heading into the 2024 offseason after Federiko Federiko and William Jeffress hit the transfer portal. Blake Hinson and K.J. Marshall will depart for graduation, but incoming freshmen Brandin Cummings and Amdy Ndiaye will take their spots.
