Pitt Football Announces Honorary Coaches for Spring Game
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have received their honorary coaches for the Spring Game, set to take place Saturday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium with a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
Former offensive lineman Dan LaCarte will lead the Gold Team, while former linebacker Kellen Campbell will lead the Blue Team.
LaCarte spent four seasons for the Panthers from 2000-03, receiving three All-Big East Academic honors in 2000, 2002 and 2003. He also served as a starter from a sophomore in 2001 to his senior year in 2003.
Campbell spent five seasons with the Panthers from 2001-05, working mostly as a full back.
The West Allegheny alum played in nine games as a redshirt junior in 2004, taking the starting position, including seven of the last eight games, rushing two times for eight yards. He would see a little more production in 2005 as a redshirt senior, with three carries for six yards and four catches for 34 yards.
Campbell helped the Panthers win a share of the Big East Championship, which gave them a BCS Bowl Game in 2003. They would lose to Utah, led by head coach Urban Meyer and future NFL quarterback Alex Smith, 35-7.
