PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have added a quarterback of the future to their 2025 recruiting class over the weekend, bringng a signal-caller from Oregon, Ohio to the Steel City.

Mason Heintschel, a three-star prospect out of Clay High School, announced on Twitter this weekend that he had become the second high school player to commit to the Panthers' newest recruiting class.

Heintschel is still early in his recruitment, having picked up just a handful of Division I offers in all. The first came from Toledo last August and he's added offers from Akron, Coastal Carolina, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky, Bowling Green, Liberty and Ohio as well. He visited Pitt this weekend as they went through spring practices and competed in their first intra-squad scrimmage of 2024.

Heintschel accounted for more than 3,000 total yards and 33 total touchdowns during his junior season. He's mobile, creative escaping pressure and has impressive arm strength to make throws on the run.

The Panthers already have a loaded quarterback room led by Nate Yarnell and Christian Veilleux and bolstered by freshmen Eli Holstein, Julian Dugger and Ty Dieffenbach waiting in the wings.

Pitt now has two commits in the 2025 recruitng class - Heintschel and three-star defensive end Trevor Sommers.
