PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers added an important piece to their women's basketball program as they landed a transfer forward from Clemson.

MaKayla Elmore announced her commitment to the program on Twitter, making her the first player to join Pitt this offseason.

Elmore spent the past three seasons as a member of the Tigers, playing in 93 games. She saw the most action in her collegiate career as a junior this past season, starting 28 out of the 31 games and averaging 25.6 mintues per contest

The 6-foot-3 forward scored 4.3 points, grabbed 5.6 rebounds and made 1.3 assists per game last season, respectively. She also shot 37.2% from the field, 31.9% from 3-point range and 57.1% from the foul line, respectively.

Her best game last season came in a 68-64 victory over Wake Forest on the road on Feb. 29. She scored a season-high 17 points, where she shot 6-for-8 from the field, including an impressive 5-for-6 from behind the arc, along with grabbing six rebounds.

She is one of five Clemson players who entered the transfer portal following the firing of head coach Amanda Butler after six seasons in charge of the program. Clemson named Shawn Poppie their head coach on March 26, who just led Chatanooga to back-to-back NCAA Touranament apperances in his first two seasons as head coach.

Pitt head coach Tory Verdi will look to add more players to his roster after a number of players entered the transfer portal following the end of last season. Pitt finished 8-24 overall and 2-16 in the ACC, tied for last in the conference,

All-ACC forward Liatu King joined the portal, along with fellow forwards Rapuluchi Ayodele and Gabby Hutcherson, who all walked on Senior Day, and guard Jasmine Timmerson Jr.

Elmore currenly serves as the tallest player on the Panthers, bringing much needed size to a team that lost a large part of their rebounding production this offseason. She has one year left of eligibility.

Other forwards on Pitt women's basketball include graduate student Ioanna Chatzileonti, who transferred in late last season from Kansas and sat out its entirety, as well as sophomore Lauren Rust and incoming freshman Kiara Williams from Palm Bay, Fla.
