Clemson Transfer WR Looking at Pitt Football
PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are looking at different options in the transfer portal for next season, but one player is already looking at them first.
Clemson redshirt junior wide receiver Troy Stellato told Adam Friedman of Rivals that Pitt is a school he is looking at, along with ACC foe Louisville and Florida.
Stellato hails from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and played for powerhouse Cardinal Gibbons High School. He was a consensus four-star wide receiver in the Class of 2021, with 247Sports rating him No. 28 in Florida, No. 32 wide receiver and No. 227 recruit in the country and Rivals rating him No.16 at his position, No. 21 in the state and No. 136 recruit in the nation.
He would play in just two games due to injuries as a true freshman in 2021, with two catches for 15 yards. He then suffered an ACL injury in Fall Camp and missed the entire 2022 season.
Stellato returned in 2023 making 38 catches for 321 yards and a touchdown, playing 580 snaps in 12 games and starting six contests.
He made a season-high seven catches in the loss to NC State in Week 9, season-high 51 receiving yards in the blowout of Charleston Southern in Week 2 and grabbed a touchdown in the road win at Syracuse in Week 5.
Stellato had two great games back-to-back in 2024, with six catches for 72 yards and a touchdown in the 49-14 win on the road over Wake Forest in Week 7 and then seven catches for 74 yards in the 48-31 win over Virginia at home in Week 8.
He would also play in the 24-20 win over Pitt on the road in Week 12, making one catch for 12 yards, marking his last appearance for Clemson.
He finished the season with 25 catches for 264 yards and one touchdown, after Tigers coach Dabo Swinney revealed that Stellato had a thumb injury he couldn't play through. He also won't make the trip to the ACC Championship Game with the Tigers.
Stellato spoke to The Clemson Insider about why he decided to leave and that he wanted to go somewhere else to improve his game with two years left of eligibility.
“Didn’t envision myself growing as a player here,” Stellato said. “Felt disrespected at times and still have no clue how I was demoted after the UVA game. Finally started getting in a rhythm. There was way more out there for me and I wasn’t getting the opportunity.”
Pitt hasn't officially offered Stellato yet, but this is one player to keep an eye out for going forward.
