GLENDALE, ARIZ. — Purdue had an incredible run, but came up one win short of bringing a national championship back to West Lafayette. On Monday night, the Boilermakers lost 75-60 to UConn, as the Huskies won back-to-back titles.
Zach Edey was dominant for Purdue, scoring 37 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. But the supporting cast didn't do enough for the Boilermakers. Braden Smith chipped in 12 points, but no other player on Purdue's roster had more than five points. It speaks to the stifling defense UConn played throughout the night.
Four of UConn's starters reached double figures on Monday night's win over Purdue. The Huskies were led by Tristen Newton, who scored 20 points. Stephon Castle added 15 points and Donovan Clingan and Cam Spencer each chipped in 11 for UConn.
