BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — No. 1 Purdue suffered its second loss of the 2022-23 season, falling to No. 21 Indiana 79-74 on Saturday at Assembly Hall. The Boilermakers are now 22-2 on the season and 11-2 in Big Ten play.
The team was plagued by turnovers in the first half, giving the ball away 11 times and allowing the Hoosiers to score 12 points off those mistakes. Purdue fell behind by as many as 16 points but put together a strong second-half effort behind 33 points and 18 rebounds from junior center Zach Edey.
The Boilermakers cut the deficit to as little as one but never regained the lead, finishing with 16 turnovers in their first road loss of the season.
“I think that’s what screwed us the most,” Purdue freshman point guard Braden Smith said. “They had more possession than we did. I think at the end of the day, if we take care of the ball and get it to where it needs to be, we’ll be really successful.”
