Purdue Center Zach Edey Recognized as Big Ten Co-Player of the Week
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue junior center picked up his fifth Big Ten Player of the Week honor, the conference announced Monday. He shared the award with Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Edey averaged 28.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60% from the field to lead the No. 1-ranked Boilermakers to wins over Michigan and Michigan State this past week.
During the team's 75-70 road win over the Wolverines at the Crisler Center on Thursday, he scored a team-high 19 points, adding nine rebounds and two blocks to give the Boilermakers their first win in Ann Arbor since 2018.
Edey followed the performance by posting a career-high 38 points in a 77-61 rout against Michigan State on Sunday at Mackey Arena. He also tallied 13 rebounds, three steals, three assists and a block without turning the ball over.
Purdue improved to 21-1 and 10-1 in Big Ten this season. Edey has paved the way by averaging 22.1 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest, ranking third in the country in each category. He is shooting 61.2% from the floor with 2.2 blocks and 1.4 assists per game.
Edey and the Boilermakers will be back in action on Wednesday for a matchup with Penn State at Mackey Arena. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Purdue finishes the week will a road contest against in-state rival Indiana at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Saturday. It's the first of two meetings between the Boilermakers and Hoosiers, which will pit Edey and Jackson-Davis against one another.
