REPORT: Ohio State's Zed Key Out Against No. 3 Purdue Basketball
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Ohio State will be without its third-leading scorer when it tips off against No. 3 Purdue basketball on Sunday at Mackey Arena. Junior forward Zed Key, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Boilermakers on Jan. 5, will not be available for the Buckeyes.
Key, who is averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season, missed just one game after leaving in the first half of the team's 71-69 loss to Purdue early in the nonconference schedule.
Ohio State enters Sunday's game with an 11-15 overall record, including a 3-12 mark in Big Ten play, after losing 12 of its last 13 games. Key did not take part in warmups in preparation for the contest with Purdue.
"We need to get through this season, evaluate after the season if surgery's required," Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said on his radio show last week. "The medical team will look at that and determine if surgery is required."
Over the last four games for the Buckeyes, Key has shot a combined 10-of-21 from the field and failed to reach double figures in each of the matchups. He is the team's leading rebounder on the year, with freshman forward Bruce Sensabaugh at second with 5.2 boards per game.
Purdue looks to bounce back from a stretch of three losses in its last four games. The Boilermakers sit atop the Big Ten with a 23-4 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the conference. They play three of their next four contests at home.
