Elite Center Enoch Boakye Commits to Arizona State, Reclassifies to 2021

Boakye is Bobby Hurley's fifth commitment from the 2021 class.

Just over a month after decommitting from Michigan State, George Harris Prep (Canada) star Enoch Boakye has found a new home at Arizona State.

The best part for head coach Bobby Hurley and the Sun Devils is that they won’t have to wait two years to get the 6-foot-11 center; Boakye has decided to reclassify from 2022 to 2021.

Boakye picked Arizona State over Illinois, Oklahoma State, Maryland, South Carolina and Gonzaga.

“I dealt with Coach Hurley directly and we built a great relationship,” Boakye said. “The situation is just perfect for me, and they really had a sense of urgency for me. They told me they really need me and being able step right in and have the opportunity to contribute is something that really sold me.”

Last season, Boakye averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks a game. Sports have been suspended across most of Canada this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boakye will provide a physically imposing presence on both ends of the floor for the Sun Devils. He’s an elite athlete who plays above the rim with a wide array of low post moves and exceptional footwork.

“I found out that I have the credits to come in 2021,” Boakye said. “It just made the most sense for me to come this fall. I’m very excited to get there. It’s another step toward my goal. I just want to get to work, and I’m ready to prove myself.”

Boakye joins Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix) wing Jamiya Neal, Heritage Christian (Northridge, Calif.) wing Justin Rochelin, Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) forward William Felton and Dream City Christian (Glendale, Ariz.) guard Demari Williams.
